A room naming convention is the set of rules that decides how a hotel room is labeled: what attributes go into the name, in what order, and in what wording. It sounds cosmetic. It is not. The room name is the thing a traveler reads and an aggregator matches on, so inconsistent names quietly cost bookings.
A good room name is built from the attributes that actually change what the guest gets:
Put those in a consistent order and wording and you get a name a person and a machine can both read. Leave them loose and every source describes the same room differently.
Each supplier writes room names for its own system, in its own shorthand, often abbreviated to fit legacy fields. "Deluxe King Ocean View, Non-Smoking" from one source arrives as "DLX KING NSMK OV" from another, while a third sells "Superior Double, City View" that is a different room entirely. There is no shared standard across the industry, so the raw feeds do not line up. Comparing them without cleaning them first leads to mismatched rates and the wrong room being sold.
